Each update of the Google databases costs $1.27 million. This is apportioned as:
$88,000 in staffing costs to initiate and supervise the 5 day operation
$26,000 to replace servers that fataly overload while calculating PageRank
$1,156,000 in additional bandwidth fees as webmasters watch the dance and repeatedly check their rankings for various terms and check their PageRank during the 5 day operationAt a board meeting in the Staff Canteen on 25th December 2002, it was agreed to reduce the number of updates from 12 to 9 per year, resulting in a saving of approximately $4 million per year. Proposals to reduce the number of updates to 6 per year were rejected.
The amended update schedule for 2003 will now be as follows:
January 14th 2003
February 27th 2003
April 2nd 2003
May 14th 2003
June 31st 2003
August 5th 2003
September 22nd 2003
November 5th 2003
December 24th 2003
so what this says is basically webmasters have a one million dollar a month google "drug" habit, heh
