How to get indexed in Google for misspelled keywords?

Looking for an alternative to meta keywords tag

I understand one of the uses of the Meta Keywords tag was to include misspelled versions of keywords, or foreign variants.

But if Google doesn't use the Keywords tag, how do you now go about this? Obviously I wouldn't want to put misspellings on the page itself - it would just look illiterate! :)

I put mis spelling all the time.. well they arent mis-spellings but two legite ways to spell words, I would include both ways if i were you though... just try and conceal the misspelled as much as possible so you dont look dumb

image alt tags are a good place for mis-spellings too. :)

Unfortunately Adwords is out as my site is non-commercial.

Alt tags sounds good. And presumably Title tags as well.

What about comments? Does Google take any notice of those?

I used the misspelling of accessories as accesories in my key phrases. Used them once in the title out of view and one or two times in alt images. I came up as #3 on SERPs next to sites that created pages just for those key phrases. Amazingly these SERPs are giving me nearly identical results to the accessories spellings which is getting me 3rd page results.
