First time here. Just wanted to see if anyone has experienced what happened to me a few weeks ago. I seeded a website on or around Nov. 16. After the end of Nov. update was finished, the site had a greyed-out bar, hence it was not indexed. Normal enough. I checked the site again around Dec 12 only to be stunned when I saw a PR 0. OK- I have a hunch as to why the site may have gotten a PR 0- that's not the issue. I was extremely lazy and stupid and copied and pasted the about us and contact us pages from another one of my sites. But why did the PR 0 show up before this month's update? Or is it really a PR 0 (just wishful thinking on my part ;)). I've asked a few of my seo mentors and we are all scratching our heads.
Der PR is only made after a google dance. Because your site was created after the google dance october and after the deep crawl at the beginning of november you haven't got a pagerank.
Your site was surely deep crawled at beginning of december and after the next google update (in the year 2525) you should get another pagerank.
Until the next dance your PR0 is only a tip of google.
Google should not whack you with an immediate penalty for having a couple of incidental duplicate pages, it indexes many, many dupe and near dupe pages.
Timing aside (there have been a few unusual reported sightings of PR changes between updates) the PR0 for your site might actually be something like PR"0.49". Google's logarithmic scale (whatever the base is) is rounded in the toolbar display.
My thinking has changed over the past few months to be: The gray bar represents just what Google says "not ranked," whether because it doesn't have enough info about the site or there is a (?hand-applied?) penalty; the white bar shows PR rounded down to zero (maybe with possibility of algorithmic penalty pushing the PR down).
Right? Wrong? There are many views on this board, all different.
Check to see if your site is indexed. Search Google for yourdomain.com and see what pops up. Also, check your logs. Is googlebot visiting? Have you gotten any referrals? If yes to either then the site is probably okay.
Build incoming links, add content, then sit back and wait.
