i got a little question about the importance of anchor text.

i rank very well - #1 :) - with a page on the search phrase 'keyword1 keyword 2 keyword3' the page is just picked up by the googlebot, added to the database and wooooooooooh, all the way to the top without any inbound links or pagerank. the query 'keyword 1 keyword2' now gets 'only' a #150 :( position but i think that difference is made by not having any inbound links with that search phrase in the anchor text.

Could that be so? i think the first result proves that the on-page factors for that query seems pretty good but for the second phrase i miss inbound links with 'keyword1 keyword2' in it. in other words, the on-site and off-site factors have to do their work (yeah, i am patience and know time has to do it's work) but it's more a question about the big picture and if i did a good job with the on-page factors. and yes, i know it's difficult to compare both different search phrases, though they have to do with each other i suppose.

Hi pardo,

Yep, anchor text is very, very important. In fact, you'll see some discussion on this board about weird pages that only have a couple of good text links to them, no apparent on-page optimization at all.

But you say you have no inbound links or page rank. That makes it interesting. It might be that this page was picked up by freshbot because it is new or you made some changes to it. Does it have a "fresh date" below the description on the Google results?

See what happens during the next update (very soon) and where your page is then. That's when you can really find out what and how much work might have to be done.

Good luck,

Jim

For some reason my instinct tells me that your site has to have an inbound link on it from somewhere...

Use Google advanced search to see how competing sites rank with allinanchor, allintitle, etc, and you'll get an idea of what it takes to rank on your phrase.
