Newbie- Google shows my site's homepage in it's cache but won't show the "index" contents in searches. It is a small personal normal content site that has easy keywords (my name). I can find it when I search for the title specifically as found in cache, but not for words clearly visible on page. The rest of my site shows up fine, just no index. Does Google think the / and the /index.html are duplicates? I may have submitted both Ip and DNS to google. Is this a server problem? Thanks. BL

Welcome to WebmasterWorld.

The answers to your questions are pretty much no. Google doesn't get confused or think it's found dup content for "/" and "/index.html" and Google doesn't get confused about IP addresses.

One thing I'm confused about is why is your homepage not the "index.html" file? Google may not get to the page you want because there are no links to it.

He mentions "I can find it when I search for the title specifically as found in cache, but not for words clearly visible on page." This implies his page is indexed by Google. Perhaps those other search terms his is using aren't as uncommon as he thinks and it is buried real low in the SERPs?

I wonder if I am penalized because on Alltheweb they have two different results for blahblahblah.com/ and blahblahblah.com/index.html even though they are the same thing. I admit my rank is practically zero, and the site is only two months old, but if all my sub pages are in it... The results for my name are only a few pages deep, even with all results displayed and i'm sure it is not there. Thanks BL
