I've been joking since the November update that all I want for Christmas is a PR6. Was rather stunned today when I checked into my site and discovered I now have one. Certainly not objecting, but I thought PR only changed during updates? Or is this part of the everflux I've not seen before?

Good luck if it stays.

Have to say I have never noticed a change between updates, perhaps this is something new!

Just curious, are you checking your PR using "www." as a prefix or not, sometimes it makes a difference. I have a site with PR 4 without the www. and PR5 with.

if it was the site in your profile you apear to have a pr6 on both www and non www.

you also apear to have some internal pages also showing pr6. Has your backlinks changed a lot lately? have you recently got a yahoo or odp listing?

perhaps a new odp or yahoo link might be the trigger for a new pr calculation?

It is the site in my profile and I spend a bit of time gathering links daily, though I don't think we've had any new really big links to the index this month. Did get one very nice link to a deeplink - could that've done it?

I may stick with the "Santa got my email" theory..

I've seen major changes in our site's position (and I presume ranking as well, but I dont run Windoze or any other OS that supports returning PR...) 2nd-8th to about 250. This happened last night sometime... our traffic has accordingly dropped to 40% of what it was.

Here's a link to another thread where others are also discussing this...

Happened to me as well. :) Went from 4 to 5 with no change in incoming links, about two weeks ago. Plus Google suddenly started showing the SERPs with the Google directory description included as well. Haven't seen that for this site before (the site is 6 months old).

checking my site without the www shows no site at all, a 404. Does that mean the hosting is set up wrong?

>a 404 ...wrong?

Yeah, but you'd be surprised how many sites only have the www working. I see it all the time. For most of them, this means that a big chunk of their off-web marketing is creating a type-in for the short url and getting that 404 (which isn't ever customized, either).
