How to get back on Google

After I think being banned.....

I was just wondering if it is possible to get reinstated on Google after being dropped after following some "ill advice" from a linking company that was advertised on Google.
I think this may have been the reason I was dropped/banned .Initally I thought the server may have been down when the bot came around but that was over 2 months ago and there is absolutely no sign of links, Url or anything where as my site used to rank really well.

I have just redesigned my site it and is completely clean and was wondering what would be a starting point to get back on Google or is just a lost cause and would I be better off purchasing a new domain name and starting afresh.

Thanks in advance

4ibiz,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]!

Is the 'bot still visiting your pages?

Unless the bot is still visiting, from that "following some "ill advice" from a linking company that was advertised on Google", I suspect you have got the Google Death Penalty. The GDP usually means eternal damnation for a domain. Thus, start over.

Our main site has been carrying a PR0 for quite a long time due to some of those same linking practices a couple of years back. What I've found in the last month or two is that a PR0 (or somewhere less than 1) *might not* be a total ban, more like a heavy penalty that you have to work to dig yourself out of.

As jdMorgan implies, if the bot is still crawling your site you probably don't have an actual ban. Though we went many months without any referrals Googlebot has always fully indexed us. After steadily adding to our incoming links we've been seeing improvement: from 0 refs in October it looks like we might hit 1,000 Google referrals this month. That's a long way from the 15,000 refs the site gets from MSN but we'll take whatever we can get.

My thoughts on PR0 have changed a lot since finding webmasterworld again. I think you can dig yourself out of it.

I can find no evidence of googlebot visiting my pages.
I have downloaded the raw access files and copied them to notepad to use the find feature and "google" or "googlebot" does not show up anywhere.
Am I looking for it correctly?
I am using Cpanel 5 and I can access stats by using the webilizer stats feature also, I can find no reference to "googlebot" anywhere although I have come across a few [mydomain.com...]
Any thoughts?

Thanks again.
