I would suggest taking Brett's advice on branding into serious consideration. In the end, it may not be for you... but to discard it out of hand would be doing yourself a disservice.
I am also a marketing consultant by training/profession but now site owner/stuggling business person.
I also saw Bretts comment about branding and would agree to a point but it seems sites definitely get a better listing if using the keyword url approach. -keyword1-keyword2-keyword3.com etc.
I personally think this stinks, especially if you believe in the concept of 'the brand'. But times are tough, ranking and exposure is everything and in a business that requires fast turnover for little margins early in its lifecycle we have resorted to keyword domains.
All you SEOs out there - how many of you would currently advocate against keyword domains? Not many I suspect as it keeps your client/boss happier with fast top ranking results.
But how is this going to hold out in the long run? Anyone can come up with a new keyword domain, but very few can build an effective and long lasting business based on it.
>Interesting point - possibly worth its own side discussion.
Absolutely. In fact, so worthy, there seems to be a discussion [webmasterworld.com] going on already.
I think the trick is to ride current wave yet be prepared for the lull with other strategies.
