Google has for some time been using the figure of 150 million searches a day.

[google.com...]

Now with their new zeitgeist - I was pleased to see a new number - "more than 55 billion searches conducted over the past year". I figured "Aha - a new figure - I will divide by 365 and get..."

150 million....

Oh well. Google might be using a very liberal definition of "more than" in the "more than 55 billion" remark. Seems like they haven't released a new number in over a year now.

They might be having some problems we're unaware of...there was the adwords thing recently, etc. and they have been hard at work froogling...(sorry, couldn't resits).

As for the figure, it still sounds impressive to me - and what other SE on the planet can boast anything remotely close?

They don't have to say they get more than that, for marketing, because for the most part in volume as a search engine they are far ahead of the 'pack'...

Perhaps they are taking the McDonalds approach.

They have the "billions and billions served" signs now, out front of the restaurants. Google could just change to "billions and billions searched" ...?

Just a thought.
