cache or no cache?

If search engines view a page with:

<META NAME="test" CONTENT="nocache">

will it still cache the site?

I use a SEO program that will insert this META tag to "Prevent local caching in web server and web browser". It says in the discription of the tag

"This option controls browser caching.

Select this option to prevent Netscape Communicator/Navigator from caching
a web page locally.

However, Microsoft's Internet Explorer seems to ignore this information and caches the web page anyway."

Anyone ever use it and is there any danger to SE rankings?

<META NAME="test" CONTENT="noarchive"> is the Google-specific tag.

I've used this and it works fine. However if you're doing anything "evil" or frowned upon according to G's standards, you'll stick out like a sore thumb.

GoogleGuy recently said (here) that over 90% of "noarchive" sites were using cloaking which they don't like. At all.

"nocache" is not really as big an issue for the other search engines. It works on all the rest of them but why use it if they don't show your cache?
