How does Google perform text matching for searches?

I have a question about how Google uses cached pages when performing text matching for searches. I am a first-time poster and only a recent visitor to this site, so hopefully this is not an ignorant question. However, I haven't seen it answered after pouring over a lot of Google posts and the Google FAQ on the site.

My site has been online since August. Without any real knowledge of SEO, I have achieved a PR5. However, I am still ranking around the 300th result for the main keyword for my site. At first, I thought part of this may be due to the fact that until recently my homepage was basically just a graphic (logo and image map) without any text (of course, I have real content linked from the homepage).

Two weeks ago, I added relevant text to my homepage with good keyword density. These pages have been picked up by FreshBot and also show when I click "cache" from a Google search. However, when I click on "cached snapshot of page" from the Google toolbar, I see the older version of my site.

I am still ranking around the 300th result for my main keyword. I am wondering if Google is still doing text matching for search results from the older cached version of my website.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Regards,

Victor

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Victor.

The Freshbot listings work in parallel with the full, monthly updated listings. You may find that the Fresh and non-Fresh content can both be searched, depending on which Google server you hit.
