Someone pointed to Brett's interesting article:

This got me thinking. I saw an interesting search engine, can't remember the name, that used context very well. Some words have more than one meaning, or shall we say more than one theme.

So if widget was the name of a product, say Widget Pellets, as well as the last name of a famous movie star, say Britney Widget, when you typed in widget, you'd get a mix of results, some would be with naked pictures of Britney Widget and the other set would have product descriptions of Widget Pellets. From what Brett says, it's pretty clear that google has the ability to determine how many themes relate to that query and could easily ask the user which theme he meant. I guess that will be coming soon. I haven't found the minus button as useful...

Anyone remember which engine did that?

I'm going off to play with googsets.

Altavista Prisma, Teoma, Wisenut all offer pre-categorisation of possible meanings/themes to the proposed search query.

Google for some reason is behind/reluctant to start even in Beta..
