I'm a first time poster, long time lurker. I thought it would be helpful to if we share our latest google statistics. That way, I can see if I'm way off, doing really well, or somewhere in between. Also we can see if pagerank really makes any difference!

Mine:

PR=5
Pages Indexed in google: ~55,000
Avg. Daily Google Referrals: 1000-1500

For my employer's website which I'm nominally the webmaster. It's a software development/consulting company.

Today's PR for index.html: 6
Yesterday's Google (not Yahoo) referals: 18
Pages Indexed: 198 (according to some free web based tool)

The funniest thing about our website, well as far as search engine referal and bandwidth usage goes, is various staff hobby pages and one partner's in particular consistantly account for 80% of the bandwidth.

The popularity of the keyphrase has got to be major. I've got some PR1 pages pulling in 25 uniques a day each, but I'm sure if the search term was less popular it would be much lower.

My best PR page is a PR4, and it only pulls in about 100 a day, because the search terms there aren't as popular.

I always thought I was an inadequate webmaster, Now I know I am after looking at these stats.

Main Site
PR5
Google referrals/day: 200

I also have 260 city based sites (travel sites) pointing back to main site. They are not mirror or same content.
PR3 to PR4
Google referrals/day/each site: 10

All sites have been up for about 8 months

Can anyone throw me a bone and give some advice?
Things I do know:
I need more content. More quality pages (text)
Now starting to use H1 H2 - 12/1/02
Now starting to use alt tage for graphics -12/1/02
Working on Inbound links from complementary sites.
Thanks

At our website we get 90% of search engine traffic from Google. The rest is from Yahoo, AOL and MSN, outside links, and direct URL typing. We are a commercial website that sells computer cables and networking supplies. We also get an undetermined amount of traffic from word of mouth referrals.

How are you finding out how many pages are indexed?

For those of you with 10,000 plus pages - are these all unique pages or "gateway" pages designed for search engines? Do you have any examples? Thanks.

Hm ... after days of observing this thread i now also have to put my 0,2 euros in. Forgive me if i don't play the game, but i don't think that posting our numbers is helpful, if we don't also post the daily searches covering each topic. Yeah, it's interesting but that's it.

You can have zilions of pages indexed, have a pr of 10 and only receive 1 referer each quarter. It depends soooo much on the popularity of a theme and on how many searches are done daily. For me, i don't stress ... i never check how many referers a day i get from google. I don't know how many referers are good or should be the goal within my theme. NONE of the keywords suggestion tools returns any valuable number of searches per day. So why bother?

The only error i find within Brett's advise Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone [webmasterworld.com] is also the number of referer you can get.

Do those 26 things, and ... it will be drawing between 500 and 2000 referrals a day from search engines. If you build a good site with an average of 4 to 5 pages per user, you should be in the 10-15k page views per day range in one years time.

So for which topic? What keywords? How popular? How many searches a day? See what i mean!?

BTW: Today i built a couple of pages about a topic that is quite interesting for my visitors. After finishing and uploading the pages, i checked with various tools how often the keywords i covered are searched at google and other se's ... don't laugh: NOT EVEN 1. However, it's a really interesting theme and of good value for my site allthough it probably brings no referer from any se. ;-)

43 pages indexed.
3,000 average referals from Google.com a day.

This does NOT include Yahoo, Aol, Google.ca or anything other than just Google.com

Main Site (commercial)
PR5
87 pages indexed
35 referrals per day

secondary site (2 months old)
PR 4
25 pages indexed
approx. 5 referrals per day

Another commercial site
PR6
34 pages indexed
15 per day

So...what have we learned?

All four of my sites are PR6 with my newest site having the whole darn directory indexed in Google :) My oldest site (1995) does on average of 17,000 uniques per month ( my 3rd best site for traffic), has all of its targeted keywords in the top 10 of Google, however only gets about 8% of its traffic from Google. :)

Relatively specialized and seasonal site (ranking well & beating higher sites with higher PR)

PR 5
2,300 pages indexed
1,400ish from Google.com (About 35-40% of total referrers - not even including Google's partners & other TLDs)
600ish from Yahoo

I love you Google.

I just have one commercial site with 9 pages.

So, 9 pages indexed.
Top page is PR5, subpages PR4

500-600 referrals from Google daily (this is about 40% of my overall traffic).

My site has 1300 pages indexed in Google.

Average referrals from Google/Yahoo/AOL a day is around 400.

Daily traffic is between 500-600.

Site is new. First appeared in Google in October.

Must be nice to have 3000+ visitors a day! Oh well, maybe sometime next quarter.

Mmm. I'd say about ~300K pages indexed. Top page is PR10, but other pages cover the full range. I'd have to check my logs to see how many hits we get. :) Hope everybody has been having good holidays so far! :)

Hmmm...I think we'd better check your site to be sure that it meets the TOS ;)

Around 15% fall off in visitor numbers (was 25,000 per month) since Yahoo started taking Google's results. I put that down to no-one uses the Yahoo directory any more... and I had a top spot there.

All other factors are unchanged.
