As I point in the other post :
I talk about that in some France forum and with some SEO guy a meet this summer. And they don't see anything wrong with that.
I said to thoses guys it is probably the geopraphic density of thoses people living close together for hundreds of years in those small country who forged theses mentality.
But a another factor is the people from France, (and western europeen) have a lot more experience with electronic communication. They were dealing with Minitel since the beginning of the 80s and they got also Smart Card from the end of 70s.
Should Google hire some of thoses guys for the Spam team to make a big clean up?
They are mainly doorpages full of keywords and links to the site homepage. Sometimes they use javascript redirects, sometimes they just put all the SPAM stuff at the bottom of a long doorway page, where the users can't see it.
About three or four months ago, the most famous SEO agency here in Italy was first in Google SERPs for the main SEO-related keywords; they use good and ethical SEO methods, AFAIK: good contents and good "welcome pages".
Today, for the same keywords, the first page is full of new SEO firms using -evident- sneaky tricks.
I hope Google will tweak its spam detection algorithms.
As I said in the other thread [webmasterworld.com] it still leaves much room for quality SEO to get on top without gambling and with building lasting sites with lasting traffic.
Cheating unfortunately seems to be more successfull and in many cases very long lasting these day's.
I prefer to play the safe and ethical game at the place of cheating. I get very angry when i make a narrow search and get redirect at root. If I take the time to go to a search engine and make a request, it is not to loose time to find my information in a bad structured site.
If my client Web site structure is too bad to make clean SEO or if my client don't want to do makeover, or adding useful content on is site, I just tell him bye bye and pray that is competitor don't contact me to do a super job for him ;-)

Don't get me wrong, i also really prefer to play honest - and still do so! However, it's getting harder every day 'n update and it definitely seems to be *quite* successfull to cheat ... from my point of observation through the last couple months. And BTW: cheating a way that disturbs the user / searcher isn't lasting long - but cheating to get (back) top positions, beating the spammers (! yeah) AND satisfying the searcher ... hmmm ...!?
Compare the hard work of building a content rich, cool site, finding good on theme incoming links against the quick dirty ways that actually seem to work ... so what? Me, with my really valuable site, sitting behind dodgy spam garbage, i'm really frustrated.
