PageRank, or not

I've just revisited a single page geocities site I set up years ago for a friend, to discover it has a PageRank of 6, and a good DMOZ listing, as well as some other good backlinks.

A pleasant surprise!

However, when I look at its listing in the Google Directory, it sits at the bottom of the list and is the only one in the category that doesn't have the PageRank bar image next to it.

I know that new geocities sites show a PR of 6 initially, before a true value is asigned. But I would have thought that seeing as this site is several years old, and has good links to it, it would have its own PR by now.

So, does it genuinely have PR6? If so, why no image next to the listing?

Probably not, unless one of those backlinks is a PR7 or higher, or there is a significant number of backlinks which are in the PR 5-6 range.

There is some stability to be gained with a Geocities page, it seems.

On my favorite keywords, for the last couple of months my site has come in behind a Geocities site that has been dead for more than three months now, showing only the Geocities default 404 page. On this last update, I was able to beat out the dead Geocities page .. but barely; it still ranks third in the SERPs.
