Well, I finally step away from the computer and take a break from it all on the beach for the Thanksgiving holiday and lo and behold I come across a documentary in the hotel about Google. Yes I got sucked in but only caught the tail end of it. They were interviewing the fine folks at the Googleplex, raving about there great search engine. Did anyone see this? I'm wondering if it will re-air or if this is an old story. If anyone knows I would like to know about it. :)

TIA

It was pretty fluffy, but I think for many who aren't in the know, it's a nice bit of background. I think those who know nothing about the web, may have been able to strip off the whole we love google message and get some real info on what I consider the backbone of the internet... the search engine.

I found a couple of things interesting in it.

One being googles privacy policy that prohibits themselves from utilizing personal info they have about their users. To that I say... blah blah blah. Whatever. Internal privacy policy means diddly IMO.

And that Ask Jeeves plans on surpassing googles level of service by using the teoma search engine. I think that's laughable as long as teoma is pay for inclusion.

just a couple of thoughts.

I think with the infusion of AJ's hardware other resources into Teoma, it's very much a Google contender. Go look in teoma and see if you can spot the paid inclusion in general serps - is it even possible to spot? Teomas a great engine, with a future that can only get better. If they could put another zero on their database size, I'd use them as default.

As Mat said, it was a nicely balanced piece for the average user. Search engine users being very fickle - very true... However, although the other engines might be vastly improved these days, nothing can touch Google at the moment. And Blimey, what a difference between the fun looking atmosphere of the 'plex and the dusty feel at the Ask Jeeves office ;)
