Are there certain characters that one should avoid in page titles? (i.e. ¦ > / ...)

Are entities like > better than >?

I've been wondering about this to. I use - a lot in my titles. Widgets - Widgeting in America

I've also used, Widgets: Widgeting in America

I've heard there were past discussions indicating any punctuation in titles is bad. I hope someone can clarify this.

I prefer no punctuation, but I've used hyphens a lot with no problem.
