Backlink questions

Here are some questions for the experts:

a) PR6 backlink missing from the list of backlinks. It was there until this update. The page which had the link still exists. But it does not even show when searched by the domain name. This used to show up previously.

b) Some backlinks (PR6) do not show up in the list of backlints. But show up when searched by domain name. Is Google calculating PR for this reference or completely ignoring it?

c) Sometime I read here references like "high PR5" or "low PR6". How do you guys figure out this high and low stuff?

Thanks in advance

I have been wanting to ask the same thing about links. I know of at least one PR6 link that should have shown up for us, but hasn't. I can't understand it as the link comes from a site that is regularly spidered (a well known news site). Any thoughts anyone?

BTW, on the high vs. low PR within a range the way that I have worked out that we rose this month within PR6 is by looking at the Google Directory and noticing that we have now risen above several others holding the same PR.

check if the links were/are javascript links to your site.

Possible the page was not available to Google for spidering when it was doing the deepcrawl that it calculates page rank off. Other possibilities that the format of the page/link has changed - maybe it didn't have a noindex tag or javascript on the link when it went up and now does.

Ditto above. If it's javascript, no, it's not being counted. If there's a noindex or nofollow on the page/robots, presumably it's not being counted either.

Guesswork.

If it is spidered regularly it will be being hit by the freshbot, a different creature than the deepcrawler who does the monthly crawl, and from which PR is calculated once a month.

My site is currently a PR5, just like the previous month. It was #4 in it's Google directory category, behind other PR6 and PR5 sites. My competitors dropped to PR5, and now I'm #1 in the directory. My little green bar shows longer than those below me (other PR5's). When using the toolbar's PR, we all still show a PR5, but I know I have a "high" PR5 because I'm #1 and my little bar is longer in the directory, if that makes sense ;)

That's how I judge "high" or "low" PR, relatively.
