Is it over - if so, how can you tell for sure?

I sure would like to know the answer to this one too!

I think it's very close to being done. Brand new site here, PR finally is showing up today -- and OMG it's PR7 - on ALL pages! I hope like hell this sticks, cuz that is a great place to start! I was expecting to start at a PR4 or so. WOOHOO!

I have a few other questions though...

1. No sign of Freshbot in days here, or deep crawl. Anyone else experiencing this?

2. Some of my backlinks that were showing the other day, are no longer showing. Safe to assume that their PR has dropped, or maybe that part of the dance isn't done?

3. If #2 means that the dance isn't quite done, could that mean that my PR7 could go even higher, when my other backlinks show up?

Thanks guys!

Dance is NOT over. I just saw the old index on one of the 7 data centers.

Do a search on likely Google update related search terms and you'll find some sites that track the progress of the dance. As of 15:00 GMT it was 3/5 complete.

Great, Karen. But don't be _too_ optimistic. Three of my pages are still dancing between 4 (their old value) and 5.

Some of my pages have fresh 29th.

All five active data centers have been updated, although two seem to be offline.

But I don't think that necessarily means that it's all over. I'd expect to see some fluctuations as Google continues iterating (if that's the word).

How do you know that all five data centers have been updated?

This gets tricky, WebManager.
I once posted a "how-to" of a search to find a site that monitors the update and had it snipped (rightly) under the "no tools, no links, etc." provisions of webmasterworld.
You're a "WebManager" - do a Google search and find pages that give info on the location and state of the Google data centres.

kstprod...

How many back links do you have? And generally what is the PR from the pages you have back links?

Thanks!

I am _not_ sure, but it seems that the mentioned three pages have settled on 5. (Which would be a surprise for two of them.)

How about you? Do you see any fluctuations? How about your 7, Karen?

kstprod, how did you manage to get a pr7 with a new site. How many backlinks do you have- 10? 100? 500? And how did you manage to get that for a new site?

Hi Webmanager,

Chek 'em and see.

[webmasterworld.com...]

The update apparently starts on one data center and then spreads to the rest.

Funny: Fresh tags have disappeared. But with the right search terms I can se my own dates on the pages: 26th and 27th. So it definitely are new spidering results.

PR seems stable.

skirope...

I have about 20 backlinks from PRs ranging from 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Nothing below 3, that I know of. Although only 3 of my backlinks are showing now, and they are lower ones. Thats why I wondered if my PR would grow when Google found my higher links.

troels_nybo_nielsen...

Still showing 7 - thank god...lol..so far haven't seen any fluctuations. All my serps are stable now too. Hope everything stays this way.

eveningwalk...

As I said above, I only have about 20 or so backlinks. Might be a few more that I have forgotten about. I just went to related sites and directories, and tried to keep an eye on higher PR'd sites. Might be bad business, but I avoided sites with low PR, no matter how relevant, because I wasn't positive that their low PR would reflect on me.

Maybe some of this is just luck, and I made some good choices on links. I'm still learning this PR stuff, and am still a long way from understanding optimization, but this definately soothes all the headaches I've had from trying to "get" the whole Google thing. Maybe I'm not as far off as I think...who knows, but I better start trying to figure out what I did to get such a good start, so that I can do it again for the December Update! :)

Karen, I'm thinking that a link from a pr7 or PR8 site counts as a lot. That may be your secret.
