Would it be unfair to assume...?

Will every page in the index get looked at in the update, as many pages on many different sites are still cached the same as last month - when the pages were updated like two weeks ago...

also - what does a date mean at the bottom of a search result, next to to address and chache/similar links?

The date refers to the freshness. In other words a cache with freshness dating means the "freshbot" came and grabbed the page on that date. The version of the page which will be in the cache after the update is done is the one that was pulled down in the deep crawl which happened from Nov 1 - around Nov 10. If you changed a page on, say Nov 15, that most likely will not be in the cache at the end of this update.

Date is fresh date. That is: you were visited by freshbot. Some of us are daily. Or almost.

Edit: Ooops, too slow. Sorry. Admins, you may count this post out. ;-)

so the 'update' is the swap over from the old index, to the one that the bots from last month have worked out...?

ie this update which is just about ending now is changing the old index for the one it was deep crawling around 5th - 10th of Nov...?
