I can't work out why I'm not showing any links at Google (and consequently, AOL). I've been exchanging links for about 6 months now and show reasonable link results in all the other search engines, but in Google, nada.
I've picked my links carefully, making sure they're relevant, and in most cases PR4 or higher. I'm even listed in Yahoo (yes, "Web Sites", not "Web Pages"), but I still don't show a single external link at Google.

About 6 weeks ago I submitted all the external pages that had my site listed to Google in the hope that Google would spider them. You guessed it - nothing.

Most of my pages are PR4, but I'd still like to see some hard links.

What does a girl have to do to get 'em?!

If someone's PR4 page links to your PR4 page, then it's odd for the backlink not to show.

Are you checking exactly the right URL on your site? (that page must be PR4+ with the links straight to it)

I'm checking my home page, which is what I've asked link applicants to link to. It's currently PR3, which is less than most of my other pages, which are PR4.

Hi Erika1959

PR flows from an external link to the page that it is linked to.

If your internal pages are higher PR than your homepage, that implies to me that either the links have been directed at those internal pages, or your home page is carrying a penalty for some reason.

Have you checked the backlinks on those higher PR internal pages?

For the last couple of days, my backlinks have been coming and going. In fact, my toolbar has been graying out a lot, too, coming back to a PR5 after a couple of refreshes. From one moment to the next, I won't show up in the SERPS; but again, it comes back. I wouldn't dare make a prediction, but this is exactly what I saw shortly before the dance last month. My only point in mentioning it here is to suggest that you can't really trust what it says about back links right now.

Google says:

"Please note: we do not serve link queries for all of the sites in our index..."

[google.com...]

Maybe it's just one of those things where you have to sit back and wait.

Deejay: I routinely check all links that I'm notified about to make sure they're directed at my homepage, so it may be they're carrying a penalty of some sort. The only thing I can think of is that I've had some spammy sites and link farmers trying to link to me. I've written to the ones I've been unhappy about, but you can't always get them to drop the link back.

Any idea how long it'll take me to "make amends" to Great God Google on this?
