Hi Guys,

I'm pretty new at reading my log files so I'm not sure exactly what means what. Hoping you can help me out. I usually get visits from googlebot.com as well as visits from ip 216 239....

Is one of these the bot and the other a human at google? When i look at the referal under IP 216...... it always says: cache:www.myurl.com

What does this mean?

Thanks for all your help. Love the site.

Cheers

without seeing the entire log, it sounds like someone is clicking the 'cached' link on your Google SERP (viewing Google's cache of your site as opposed to going directly to your site)

Thanks for that,

I think you are right. So does that mean when i see a visit from domain: googlebot.com that it's the crawler? Is there any way to tell if it's the deep crawl or the freash bot?

Again, thanks for your help.

Buckley, you need to look for 'Googlebot' in the 'User-Agent' for visits by Google's crawlers, and the 'Referer' to find people who visit your site by clicking from a Google URL.

Hi
216.239.53... equals someone viewing your cache.
216.239.39... equals someone translating your page.
216.239.46... equals deep crawl bot.
64.68... equals fresh bot.

All in my experience only.
