HI all,

My site was built using a Microsoft software, which my developer says forces me to have my main pages under a subdirectory under the root domain: www.widgets.com/superwidgets

where my home page, etc is in /superwidgets.

If there is another company in google that has a domain of www.superwidgets.com, does google relate my site to this other site (direct competitor). I was told that google will not rank my site as well as it could rank if my subdirectory where my home page, etc. was not named the same as the competitor.

Does this even make sense? :-/ Thanks!

Get a new developer or remind him who holds the checkbook :)

Not sure what the subdirectory will do though I'm sure others will answer.

Sounds waaay fishy. Does the domain name belong to you? If so, you take your home page and rename it "index.html"

Now anybody can point their browsers to www.widgets.com and they'll find you.

I have a very strong feeling that this person you're dealing with is a HACK.
