But don't be too optimistic. The PR9 _may_ lift your own PR, but you can never be sure. So many factors influence on PR.
And you should not expect anything to happen before the big update. At least according to my own limited experiences. But then I've never had a PR9 linking to me.
1, If link is still to go up or has only been up in the last 2-3 days, then do NOT expect backlink to show until the End Of Decemeber (Google update)
2, How many other links are going out from the PR9 page will have a major difference.
3, I am susprised that quite a new (fresh) site should have a PR9.
4, If its a PR9, then surely apart from the PR value, other factors should be considered, as in doest it get a lot of traffic and will those people click on the link to visit your site.
just my 20pence worth.

RobinL:
I think the link will be counted at the big update end of the month, because then they recalculate the PR. This is easy to explain:
You have a link from a PR9 site, your site gets PR8 and all other site that are linked from the PR9 site also get PR8. So all sites that you link to will get PR7. You see it is more than only change the PR of one site, so they only can do it in the major update.

welcome RobinL,
As the others said, wait till christmas, but meanwhile try to get some good anchortext and surrounding text from that link. Make sure its a straight plain vanilla link (no java/redirect) and that his page has no specific robots exclusion.
I would say your page would get an immediate Fresh spidering. But your page already gets Fresh spidering, so no specific added benefit there. Just wait. Depending on the number of links on that page, Pagerank wise you will be OK. Just remember thats only one link for that one page, still the other pages to go for..
still I say December update, apart from possible Everflux (in>out of serps).
And trust me, I would not put any money on the site becoming a PR8 (those days are long gone in my opinion)

I agree that spidering by the "fresh" program does not mean a true recalculation of PR. But it often does mean a nice high placement in relevant searches anyway - at least for a while.
However, if the freshbot misses your page (or theirs) on its next crawl, then your fresh page may temporarily drop from its exciting new position - a fate that will not be the case after the next complete update. At that time, the fresh page may take a new position, based on the full PR calculations.
Just from a standpoint of sheer computational resources, I can't see how true PR could be recalculated on a daily basis. PR calculations necessarily involve all the pages in the Google index, not just the fresh ones.
Now there may well be a guesstimate plugged in for the PR of a fresh page. But I doubt that all the target pages (outbound links from a fresh page) also see their PR refigured before the next monthly update. Only then would a "real" PR be calculated and available to the algo, and that's probably true even for the fresh page itself.
If the new PR9 link goes to your index page, then your new PR boost should be well cirulated within your domain after the monthly update. Nice going!
Patience...
I got this new link just as the last updated ended and ever since then, Googlebot has been all over the site several times. The page that the link points to now ranks very well for phrases that it never ranked on before (the page is a couple years old and is rarely updated). It does however pop in and out of the serps due to everflux.
Sooo, what I think happens is that even though the PR has not been recalculated yet, Google does analyze the PR of new links in deciding its crawl behaviour before the main update occurs.
In the first update we saw no change. Second update we saw the backward link. In the coming update I hope the new pagerank will show. It's unlikely that the pagerank is showing yet becuase we should definately be better than a 5 with a link like that.
It seems google goes through 3 phases:
1) Crawl and pick up links (mid month)
2) Show backward links (month end update)
3) Calculate pagerank using previous month's backward links (subsequent month end update)
Patience! You'll need it!
