PR Toolbar vs PR Directory

I wonder which PR is more appropriate for a site: The one thatīs displayed in the toolbar or the one that is shown in the Google-directory (in front of the listing). I see differences of up to 2 points for some sites (PR4 vs. PR6).

Any ideas?

The directory seems to show more green for oue site than the toolbar. During the last update we stayed PR5 on the toolbar but moved up 10 spots in the directory to number 3.

I think there was a definite change in the green bar in the directory making it look more like a 6. Of course since it doesn't show the alt text I frequently find myself wondering if I have been staring at too many PR bars and am seeing mirages!

Toolbar PR is on a scale of from 0 to 10, while Directory PR is on a scale from 1 to 7. The two can be added to give results on a scale from 1 to 17, with better granularity than the toolbar alone. See The Handy Dandy Google Page Rank Figurin' Guide [searchnerd.com] for details.

Mohamed_E - The assumptions on that website are quite interesting. But I never heard of 2 different PR-measurings?

Is there any proof for that thesis?

Its not really different measurings, just a different way of displaying them. The real PR is still the same.

So how can there be sites that have no PR displayed at all in the directory but a PR of 8 in the toolbar? Sounds strange to me.

>Sounds strange to me.

Usually it is because the page listed in the directory is different to the one in google. For example some sites refresh the index page [the one in the directory] to another page in the site [the one in Google].
