Google Cache Pages

Why is there nothing there?

Hello!

I am fairly new to this whole game and have a quick question that I would love some help on. On the 26th of September our sites rankings on Google fell from 3rd to the 11th page without any changes to the page. Since then we have been putting an emphasis on links and making sure that none of the sites that we were linking to where spaming and what not. At any rate in my quest for the problem I have noticed that when looking at our site on Google when I hit the "Cache" there is nothing that shows up. Can someone please explain the reason behind this and what I could possibly do to fix this? Any help is greatly apperciated!

Fawn

Hello Fawn845 - welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Johnser, sorry but we don't do site reviews.

I would at any rate say this is not a Google problem. It's most likely a problem with the site. Did the site change the default page, i.e. home page lately?

When the drop occured there was no change to the home page at all, since our rankings have been on the 11th page I have made some changed to the home page to try and improve the rankings.

Thank you!

In my experience, not being in the Cache is usually when you are not in the index. But, you say you have a ranking of 11 and I'm assuming you have PageRank also since you didn't ask about that. So you are in the index.

Do you show Similar Pages and Backward Links, just missing Cached Page?

Fawn:

Do you get the regular Google cache header, saying: This is Google's cache of [example.com...] ...yada yada?

In response, yes we do have a page rank it is 4 and our listing currently appears on the 11th page under our top keywords. Also, yes we do have backwards links, we currently show 14, which in the next index should rise based upon our efforts this month. And lastly, yes it does show the regular Google Cache header just no page. Thanks for all your help!

Then that's what I'd be looking into, Fawn. Looks like Google cached your page, only there wasn't any page at the time the bot tried to grab it?

Are you using frames with an empty no frames element or no no frames element at all?

It souns like your site uses frames. If it is, just view the source code of the cache page and you will find your page.

So does Google's Cache effect page ranking? There is a page that is currently listed in the top ten in our keyword search that also has no page in Google's Cache.

Theres a variety of ways in which people sometimes prevent users from viewing their cache for different reasons.

EG, news sites will only want users to see the most recent version of the page and not something 1 month old.

Lots of people who use "cloaking" (do a site search) don't want people to see what Google saw. This might be why your comepetitor is showing a blank page?

No, cache/no cache has no effect on ranking.

Is there any of your source code within the "blank" cached page?
