Internal links helped PR. I have, oh, say 40-50 links on the home page to internal pages. I have a sidebar that has only 20 links on it to the 'major' internal pages.
The links that are on the home AND the sidebar have a PR of one greater than those with only a link from the front/home page.
Now that the fat lady has sung, what do you think about the latest update?
It's been pretty good for me. No nasty surprises (at least, not that I've discovered yet), no drop in PageRank, and slightly better positions for some of my major keyphrases. Traffic is continuing to climb, too, at a time of year when I'd normally be heading toward a 40% seasonal drop.
In fact, it's the same story every update for the past 6 months, just slow and steady gains. I'm thinking of taking up keyword stuffing to get that old adrenaline rush during the dance.
Methinks Googleguy would know something about this matter. ;) Definitely don't try blatant keyword stuffing such as blocks of text designed just for spiders, etc. However, old fashioned on page appropriate keyword optimization should be OK.
The overall scoop of sites that I consider relevant to my keywords was a bit better this time than before the update.
Continued slow improvement every time for google's selections from my little corner of the web.
I do notice that there is now one site that has three positions on that same first page, two above me and one below. Plus an afilliate site too. I'd be happy to have them once, above me if need be, but the duplication is annoying. Travel and accommodations seem to be a tough sector for any of the SE's to get right.
However, since that time I have noticed the SERPs change dramatically. So the definition of the update being over is interesting.
Compared to the July update and to some extent the August update I am a little down for the 300 sites I manage at this time. However, I am way up from the September update which was a complete disaster in my very competitive cats.
I personally believe the algo has changed, and very recently. In a couple of days I will know more, and if all sites are back to their "usual" positions I will be dancing for joy. At the moment it is just a decent improvement.
The monthly update is about recalculating PageRank, so backlinks ashowing the same across all data centers would be a good indication that the update has completed.
After my comments about the other guy's site having multiple listings, I now see two of my own on page one and another at the top of page two. Gee - maybe I didn't really mean to complain.
Keep making these adjustments - as you were.
Things are still moving, as they do EVERY month. Take a look. My profile site is back in the index again with a search - but it will be gone later today or tomorrow. Thanks to some spudface's cached linking idea. Overall - very good month and much fairer than the last update I reckon....
This wasnīt a normal update. I donīt know why, but most of the sites in Portugal saw their PR decreased. The number one site in Portugal, was PR7 (for a long time), now itīs PR6. Another important one was PR6, now itīs PR5. 4 of my sites dropped too (and the links are the same ).
PR6 - now itīs PR4
PR5 - // PR4
PR5 - // PR3
and so on...
90% of the portuguese sites I know have dropped. Why is that? Did this happened in another country?
Sincerely,
Nuno Oliveira
I love Google, but something is really wierd right now. I have more links than most of the sites above me, *way* more content than any of them (not to mention quality), and I avoid anything spammy like the plague (okay, I did put my keyword into all the internal links to my home page, but that's it -- mostly I concentrate on finding links from relevant sites and adding content).
If anyone has the faintest idea of what I can (ethically) do to help me get back onto the first page I'd be eternally grateful.
This algo seams similar to the algo of september before the last update.
I am smiling ;-)
