First off I'm obviously new to these forums so I would like to introduce myself. My name is Catnip and I have a question about Google :) Well when I got out of bed today and entered my URL I got back 22,200 results, which is normal for our website. However when I checked this afternoon and just now it says 8,710 to 10,200 (keeps changing). And sometimes I get my 22,200? Also when I get a low number of results back i.e. 8,710 and view my cache It is a cache copy from months ago? What is causing this and can I do anything, besides pray to the Google God's?

Catnip,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]!

Well, you have two choices: Go back to bed and don't check your status in Google for a few more days, or join in the game of attempting to analyze minute-by-minute changes in Google SERPs over in the Google update thread. :)

Nothing is stable during the Google update process. I don't see any point in worrying until the new databse is settled and published. Just my opinion, though.

jdMorgan,

Thanks for the reply makes me feel a bit better. Google update thread sounds like fun time to do some serious reading :)

Still get all different results www2 and ww3 seem to stay at 17,100 now. And www is really confusing and upsetting sometimes I get 32,600 and other times I get 7,500. We always used to have over 30,000 and about 2 months ago our ISP had down time of 14 HOURS during a google crawl :( It has never been the same for months and I though seeing 32,600 things where back to normal....but now I'm going crazy. BTW we also have a PR of 5.

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

Don't trust the numbers on a check like that. Anything over 1k results is an "estimate". Those numbers can fluctuate wildly.
