Why the difference in PR between www.domain.com and domain.com

Hello,
I am new to this board, so please forgive lack of etiquette if any.

I have a site with PR4 when using http://www.mysite.com
Take away www and leave http://mysite.com and PR=0

Likewise, if I do a link check I get results with 1st format and no result with the other format.

My two questions are:
1. Is there anything I can do to change this (Use of .htaccess for example) as my hosting company tells me there is nothing they can do.

2. Is my ranking affected by that?

Thanks a lot for your comments
Chrissy

Do the same thing right here and on most other sites and the effect is the same. It's just standard operating procedure for Google. There is no problem with it, and your rankings are not affected in the least.

Thank you although on this site, removing the 3 w doesn't make any difference since the site returns them back.
