Duplicate Content Scenario

again I know...

OK I have seen the recent duplicate content threads around but have a scenario which I'd appreciate some input on as I'm still not clear on what I should do. Hopefully it can lead to some discussion and a better understanding.

The scenario: one of the sites I am working on is for a company affiliated to a software vendor. Part of their service is to resell the software vendor's training courses. What they want to do is publish the course descriptions and schedules etc on their site pretty much identically as they appear on the vendor's site.

There are at the moment three options running through my head, none of which I like:

1 - Publish the content as they want it and take the possibility of a dupe content penalty. Although the majority of the site is original content I assume that any penalty would affect the whole site so I would say this is not a good option.

2 - Publish the content as they want it and exclude googlebot from these pages with robots.txt. Although potential customers would still find the pages through the site navigation this option still takes away other potential customers from finding the pages in SERPs (and defeats the object of SEO) so I don't like this option.

3 - Try to find some way to change the content, which would be extremely difficult and probably not favoured by the software vendor.

Any other opinions or input appreciated...

How about including the original descriptions as a quote from the vendor along with you sites unique information about the products sold?

As long as the dupe content does form the whole site I cant see Google having a problem with it.

At the end of the day it is beneficial for your users to have your opinion on the products and the companies information about them.
