I have a domain i'm interested in buying that is currently for sale. I've read in some threads that at least some of you know how to determine the "past" of a site or it's current standing in google. Here is what I know about the site. 2 months old. About 2 weeks later Pr0 - after the Oct update a gray toolbar. That sounds bad to me, but is there a thread or site i can visit to find out the "condition of the site in google". thanks

Hm, it should be difficult to find out whether there is a penalty on the site or not.
I wouldn't buy this site. There are so many domain-names which have never been used. Try one of these.

Yep. Never by a used domain of uncertain past. For all you know it got the Google Death Penalty and is banned until the end of time.

Not so easy to spot either, there is a thread in here somewhere which GoogleGuy posted in, where a person had bought a domain name (so he thought) brand new, but it had actually been "put back" after being abused. So the Post still applies - how to check if a domain name has a black past?

Worth checking the domain at archive.org.
It's not foolproof but you can usually see if it was used badly.
