How does Being in Google directory effect rankings

Hi Guys, I'm brand new (see my join date). I have had some good and not so good results wuth the google update.

Quick background to my question:

I'm in the directory of ODP(Been in for 30 days) under my category, yet if i do a search for my domain or search ODP using keywords, i never find my site, accept in the category i nominated. I have a new backward link from ODP when i check google. I'm not in the google directory and when my site is listed in google there is no description section. Now i gather that takes time to update.

My question(s)are, any idea on how long it will take to show up in google directory and more importantly, will i get a boost in rankings when my description/google directory shows up, or is this already factored in since i now have a backward link from ODP?

Hi Scott - welcome to the board!

Looks like your ODP boost is already factored in. Showing up in Google directory will not give an additional boost - you will however see where you rank among the sites in your category.
The reason why you can't find the site by using the search at ODP is that this search facility is always a bit delayed in taking in newly added listings. At this time the delay is even lnger as usual, as far as I know, due to major restructuring and other backend stuff.

What heini said--I would just be a little patient. Sometimes it takes a while for us to get the latest ODP data, and then a little while longer for us to see that impact on the web.
