I find this site interesting but do almost nothing as a result of it. Long ago felt that making the best site will bring the traffic..sure some focus on search engine results will bring some traffic, but building a site whose entire strength is self building content is the key...the more content, the more traffic, from everywhere...the easier it is to add content, the more traffic...anyways I'm rambling and off topic already and its my own thread! LOL...

There probably is one (or 100) already, but I figure you guys are the biggest experts in the world on google so maybe we can try to come up with a somewhat definitive list in this thread of all the algorythms and methods used by google to determine pagerank as well as results on a query. (hope this is ok with the mods here).

This way, googleguy and his coworkers can laugh at our guesses and maybe even get an idea or two to use.

I don't know much about all this anymore, but I'll just get started with how I would do it, and assume that google has done more or less the same but better:

1. Keywords in Title.
2. Keywords in Links to site
3. Homepage has higher rank
4. H1 tag towards top of page, although to tell the truth, with CSS and images and the workarounds, I don't know how important the H1 tag is anymore. I certainly don't use it all that often anymore...
5. attempt to decipher how many columns on page, width of columns on page, do an analysis of say a thousand pages to try and find the most common headings for menus and sitemaps and figure out which column is a menu and which contains the content...and give a higher ranking for the content than the menu
6. Alt text in images
7. filename in regular files
8. filename of images.
9. Directory name
10. keyword in domain name
11. reduced importance of stopwords
12. Themes

All this is in no particular order. Once we have a full list, perhaps we can rank them...

I guess that's a good start....
