Redirect Links on Google

Can Google see redirect links?

I have read that redirect links are not counted for Google PR...is there any way around this? I have a PR 7 site that links to my site, but no backward link shows due to the redirect nature of the link to me. I've emailed the site owner, but he refuses to give a straight link because his site has been "link pilfered" before and his links and categories are the basis for his site...Any ideas on how to get around this?

It's not that uncommon for Google to index links that use redirection, i know that one big affiliate site, let the publishers link to there site, and they ship it trough to the affiliate and google picks them up and counts them as a inbound link for the affiliate site, to what extent Google does this i don't know, but yes it's always better to have a link directly to your site, without a link redirection.
If it's not possible, look at the link url for the redirection, and see if you can give get him to change the extension.
For example if the url is
link.asp?id=34
try to convince him to change it to
link.asp?page=34
or something like it, because i have done some testing and Googlebot doesn't really like when you have dynamic pages, which has a string called ID (i think it's mostly because sites often use ID for session id's which may end up as a spidertrap)
