How does Google handle 302 pages?

I'm moving from one host to another and in the meantime, I have my entire site redirected to a temprary URL to keep the transition smooth. I just noticed that Googlebot is getting a 302 error for my index page. What will it do with this? I don't want my ranking to go down. Thanks!

maialee, what you're using is probably a 302 server side redirect, right? They'll pick up the new page it's redirecting to.

I've always used 301 permanent redirect - 302 is temporary redirect. Never had a problem with 301, but on a site they work with they just redirected another domain name to the site (with 302) and Google has both domains with the same homepage now.

It's probably not that at all with yours, but with the update any time now, I'd get the redirect going to the new host as soon as possible.

I'm not sure I understand why you're redirecting someplace temporarily.
