I have just completed a site and it is on a win2000 server and is built with all datas in a database. To the files I refer with? and I do not really know if that is something that the searchengines will accept? I have heard that sometimes google do and altavista does not. So it is vital for my success of this site whether I need to completly redo the whole page.
Now is there something I can do so my site will be accepted even it is database driven with "?"?

I hope you are able to assist me a little in this matter!

Thanx Claus

Hello and welcome to Webmaster World!

Google can and will.

Altavista can, but probably only will if it finds a link to it from a site in its index or if that page happens to get a DMOZ listing or other major directory listing.

Hi Grumpus and thanx for your quick reply!

I am a little new in this whole matter so if you could tell me what do I do to get my site into altavista.
I just mentioned google and altavista, but what about all the other major one'? Do they accept and read beyond the "?"?

Do you think that I should make the whole page into .asp pages without "?" or should I continue with what I am doing? It is crucial for my success that I get good rankings in the searchengines!

Thanx a lot!
Claus

Welcome to WebmasterWorld burglar

this thread deals with php but the conversation deals with query strings as well, worth a read.

You might want to check TOS [webmasterworld.com] in regard to referencing specific url's.

One thing you may want know is that google might not like really long strings. Keep them as short as possible.
