New page dropped from SERP

My site dropped for a nice key phrase - any thoughts?

I achieved a #1 entry for kw1-kw2-kw3 in the last Google update. 2 weeks later, it's gone. Results are still showing in WWW2 and WWW3 - doesn't appear that I was banned. I'm using acceptable methods of SEO, no funny stuff, but this is a highly competitive area. Was this a manual removal?

Site is still showing page rank, other searches still turning up for similar keywords. This is a new site. Any help is appreciated.

xbase234,

New sites often don't "stick" in the SERPs until they are one or two months old. Use WebmasterWorld site search, and you'll find lots of threads for "my new page dropped". It is very common, even usual.

I haven't had this happen to me on any previous sites, as far as I know.

The only thing consistent is inconsistency...

Thanks for responding -

xbase234,

I suspect it actually is fairly consistent, if the timing of the new page going live versus the monthly Google deep-crawl are taken into account. The "fresh" crawlings and listings serve to confuse matters further, though... This in-then-out effect scares the heck out of the new webmasters here who haven't already read about it!
