What is a sign which tells that Google update has bigun?

when can you say that Google has bigan its upadate?

Can anybody tell me what are exact signs of the Start and Finish of Google Update? Is the number of pages in the text "©2002 Google - Searching 2,469,940,685 web pages
"on the google homepage changed when when the update begins?

You can tell the start of a Google Update two ways:

1) When the backlinks for Yahoo or Google are different on www and www2

2) When you see the Update thread on the front page of WebmasterWorld ;)

Yep, or you can head on down to the local drug store and track antacid and headache remedy sales. Yesterday, I did a backlink check on Yahoo and came up with a whopping four thousand and something. So how come Yahoo has such killer PR?
