Hi all

Ive just gone thru my routine SE checking and noticed some strangeness.

Firstly a site that i lauchned this month got into the Google listings last week and has been there since, but today is no where to be seen.

Now, I put this down to the fact the site hasnt been present during a major update yet and therefore there is no set way of predicting how it will do this month.

But my older site is now showing up with last months cached version and in last months positions in the SERPs. I went thru a complete site redesign last month and all the cached details and SEPRs have reflected it this month until today.

Is this what is known as everflux? I always assumed that my rankings may go up and down, but reverting back to old versions of my site?

Im more concerned about the fact that may traffic took a dive last month cos i changed the structure of my site and renamed some files so any listings got 404's.

Any ideas? Is this just a short term thing that will resolve on its own?

cheers

I've noticed something similar while checking google this morning. It seems like the folks at google may be tweaking something because it has affected the positioning of a couple of my clients under their brand names. As far as I can see, there is no major Google update occurring at present.

That tweaking may be the reason for the houdini effect on my clients listings. I'm keeping a close eye on this and will post more when I can.

In terms of the 'lazarus' that the old version of your site is doing at the moment, thats completely foxed me.

Might be a glitch with google, confusion over newly indexed and previously cached?

If you have changed urls do 301's on the appropriate urls. If you do not want the old cache/new cahce problem simply put the no cache tag in your meta tags.

Im only noticing it on certain search phrases.

Its really weird!

For one phrase, "regional widget sales", my page that contains, regional widget sales listings isnt displayed. Instead my homepage is. Which makes no reference to it regional widget sales, other than a link to my regional widget sales page!

Im noticing old cached versions for about half my keywords, and updated versions for the rest.

Ive a page on blue widget sales coming up for the term red widget sales, but no sign on the blue page.

On one of the search terms i noticed old cached version when i posted my first message, then new version afterwards!

So at least it seems to be changing.

What annoys me is though, is that in most phrases ive dropped from 1st to anywhere between 4th and 10th, and a lot of the sites above are completly irrelevant to the phrase!

C'mon Google, get yer stuff together! ;)
