One example is the german online-directory [allesklar.de...] which uses redirect-links only and feeds also [msn.de...] .
If you have a look at some categories you will find out that they often have PR7.
Checking the backlinks from sites listet in these categories, google shows the allesklar.de-link as inbound. That's perfect so far :-)
Here comes what I am concerned about: I am seeing sites having the PR7 Inbound from allesklar and still showing PR4 even if this category on allesklar has only a few outbound-links.
May these links just be shown but without counting them PR-whise? Interested to hear your opinions.
I know that PR is and never was more than one factor. But if there is no inheritance at all maybe the links do not even count for anchor-text inbound-improvement...

I think they might, for what it's worth.
Just had a quick look to a handfull of listings, it does seem PR is not passed.
There's something about those PR7's on allesklar...even the very deep categories have PR7, as does the homepage. That's a very even distribution of PR to say the least. I suspect the pr7 may be for the overall
s.php?jump=somevariables address
That could possibly explain why PR is not passed as usual..
As Damian points out, the Toolbar gives a PR value based on the URL up to the "?" (you can see this by the Google Directory link not changing even though the pages are in Google separately).
The deeper URLs do have real PageRank, but pressumably less than is shown on the Toolbar. If the PR is high enough then Google will follow the redirect and credit the destination URL with the link. If the PR is low then Google probably won't follow the redirect.

interesting point ciml but wouldn't this mean that links from sub-categories with to low pr wouldn't be shown in the backlinks of the receiving pages at all?
from my experience: if google shows the backlink to your page, that means it has normally also passed the pagerank.
browsing allesklar.de i saw examples where the backlink was displayed but no pr was passed over.
anyhow - thanks for your statements I'll give it a try. ;-)

I saw several listings which did not show the backward link from allesklar even though the category they were in was cached with the link in it.

I think you're right, but it's like Ciml says..we are not looking at the real pagerank when looking at the toolbar. So PR is probably passed, just much less then what you'd expect from looking at the toolbar.
<added> whoops..hadn't seen Ciml's reply yet..</added>
