Index frequency

Do you think it has an impact on ranking?

Hi all

I assume that if google sees that your site updates frequently, your listing gets updated more frequently.

Ive noticed this from comparing my sites.

One of them i update on a daily basis and this month the changes are being reflected more quickly (if i link to a new site, i show up in that sites linkto: and ive noticed my new pages have been added more frequently).

In contrast, I started work on an existing site and just missed the last big update, so my predecessor's unititled pages are all that show (despite the new site haveing been up for a month).

Do you think the frequency at which you update your site is one of the factors that goes towards your ranking (ie, a frequently updated site will be deemed to be more 'relevant')?

Just a thought! :)

My .02 is that the frequency with which you update your sites definitely impacts the frequency that you get spidered (assuming you have decent pr etc.).

For now, I don't see it impacting the actual serps (at least for my sites). Still, as everflux gets more apparent and as we move toward a continuosly updated index, its a great idea to keep your site fresh.

Ok, maybe dumb question but being a newbie, bear with me.:-)
How does google know that you site is refreshed? Is it as simple as changing the date at the bottom of the page that you update.
I have a sitemap that is linked off my main page and the sitemap gets updated daily with new pages is that good enough?

I assume if google crawls your site at one point and notices x amount of changes, then it will increase the frequency it updates it (with the minimum being once a month at the main update), in order to catch these changes sooner.

just my theory though.

In talking about Google, apart from a few things like the monthly update schedules, you can't really say anything with certainty. Anytime anyone says so, please be skeptical.

There are often rumors that get started (Like Google penalizes sites with over 30 outbound links on a page), that are based on unknowable specifics.
