I just found a site in my categorie that had a link to my site on every site and it was a free hosting web site, could that have given me a PR0 at the last update?. My site is find with this update there is no problems, but Google was lifting some PR0 in this update, so now Im afried that I will get a PR0 again because I have just today got them to remove every link to me and that could be late for the nov update or will they do the filtering with the update?

I hate to go from 130.000 visits a month to 15.000.

It will be interesting to see. Google is on the record saying that nothing any other webmaster does can impact on your site. Therefore, it does not matter who links to you or how they do it. Are you quite sure your site is "clean"?

Google claims that there is noting other sites, or other people, can do to that will harm your site. The way it supposed to work is that you have to link *to* a bad neighborhood to get penalized. Otherwise competitors, or just the malicious, could sabotage you. If this site linking to you on eery page harmed you, I could set up a site that did the same to a competing site, a site I just didn't like, etc. to get them a PR0. I dunno that I really trust Google isn't penalizing innocent sites. Supposedly, the only thing that can penalize a site is what is on that site.

Is there anything on your site that would justify a PR0? In particular, might you be linking to a bad neighborhood?

Zeus,

Are you saying that you did get a PR0, or that you are worried that you might get a PR0?

If you did get a PR0, did you have any links to the site that was linking to you from every page?

In the sep update I got a PR0 in this update everything is great.

I dont think I have anything on my site that would get me a PR0 I have alarge nomber of sites with a little text with 1 picture with a link pointing to it and a link from that site pointing to the main site, but that is just pure internal linking there could not be anything wrong there, so YES my site is a 100% clean.

As a webmaster you just think about what went wrong in the sep. update and I thought It could have been that free hosting site that had a link to me on every site, that could maybe look like crosslinking because it comes from another web site.

I just wanted to bring it up so we can get some better understanding what could give us a PR0, because many had/have that problem.

Sasquatch, NO I was not linking to them.

" It will be interesting to see. Google is on the record saying that nothing any other webmaster does can impact on your site. "

...by inference, does it mean that links from high PR sites have no influence one's site's PR? (since these links must have been "done" by the other webmasters).

It seems very contradictory to what must has been the common ground among webmasters here -- that links from well ranked sites are good.

I suppose it is contradictory. The specific Google statement is that another webmaster can do you no harm by an action on his or her part. Which is comforting to know, as we are all certainly dangerous enough to ourselves without any outside help! ;)

In the sep update I got a PR0 in this update everything is great.

that was most likely a glitch if it was only for one month. Could have been at your hosts end, your main incoming links host, or at google. If it came back the next month, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Sasquatch, NO I was not linking to them.

Then I think you just lost a big chunk of your PR by having all those links removed. I hope they weren't major links.

eyeinthesky:

I think that [and Google stated so]:
- links from 'good sites' to you can improve your PR.
- links from 'bad sites' to you can't trigger a penalty on your site. [unless you link to them of course. but in this case, this will be the reason]

Sasquatch, thanks I hope it was a little google bug in sep.update, about the links to me, that was not heavy links, I dont think that will hurt my PR next update.

I hope everything goes right next time, I dont want all those emails again from visitors (where are your site, bla, bla), they just dont bookmark, I bookmark all the time, but well.

I hope the best for all of you at the next Google update, it was a great update for my site this okt. update.

thanks
