Getting a Link Must Have Done It

I published a brand new website for a small non-profit on October 4, submitted it to Google et al that day, and told the folks to wait a couple of months to start seeing themselves in search results.

When I looked at the hit reports today to see if the non-profit people were checking their site, I found some people had reached the site from Google and Netscape searches. :o Huh?!

Sure enough, the site is Google #1 for what they do: "[city] [activity]". :)

I was very surprised, because the last site I submitted in mid-July took over eight weeks to show up in Google, despite an ODP listing.

I linked to this new six-day wonder from my own business site, which is in Google. I did not do that for the July site.

So, here's a toast (and thanks) to Google. Apparently linking to the site from another is a big plus. I don't know why the ODP listing didn't have the same effect, but I'll be stressing in-coming links for my new sites!

There is hope for the common man on a small budget!

Welcome to WebmasterWorld Ozdachs

Keep in mind that the listing you got is part of the new fresh system. That means you will probably see it disappear in the near future. It probably won't become stable until after the next update.

So enjoy the traffic now. :)
