Counting incoming links for PR calculation

Is it too late for new links to count in October update?

Is it too late for new links to my site to be counted toward the calculation of my pr for the upcoming update? Not sure when the incoming link counting stops and the new pr is calculated.

Yup. Google already knows what your PR will be next month. (It uses your PR to determine crawl depth). In fact, if you got the link today, it's likely that the PR increase won't be realized until the December update.

1) You get the link today
2) Google finds the link during the November crawl.
3) Google takes that link into consideration and figures it all out in the November update.
4) You get the added "crawl depth" and "serps placement" figured in for the December crawl and you start seeing your results at the end of December when the update occurs.

That's why I posted a message in some thread a few months back (which didn't get a lot of attention as I think it was a part of another topic) saying, are you optimizing for Christmas, yet? ;)

If my site is brand new (not ranked) but is in the Google index (and shows several sites containing my url) could I gain PR during this update? Or is it too soon?

Also, some other posts are of people getting deep crawled past few days. Is this for the November update? If it is for the October update, Google could still find new links.

I heard this same info last month, but added a few internal links about two weeks before the update anyway, these were all tacken into account so I say you may get lucky!

I think IF the pages linking to you are getting "freshed" a lot, then you might be able to get some credit. But I wouldn't count on it. You should be okay, regardless.

Bear this in mind, though. The FIRST month that google crawls you, it makes a "guess" at what it might want to think about maybe giving you and gives that to your front page. (How it comes up with that number is anyone's guess, but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the score of the previous week's Yankee's game...)
