I have a weird situation here. I have a .com and .net website. The log files for the .com site has googlebot requesting the links on the .com site, but it also is requesting links from the .net site. Of course, the requests for links on .net site returns 404 errors because the actual links are being called from the .com site. I must say that the domain prefix for the .com and .net are the same. Does anyone know what is going on or did I happen to find a glitch in Google's program?

I don't think anyone follows what the situation is. Are the .net and .com mirrors?

Basically, there is are two different sites. They are widgets.com and widgets.net The sitemap on widgets.net/default.asp points to widgets.net/redwidgets.asp When looking at the widgets.COM log files, I see googlebot trying to access /redwidgets.asp, which of course doesn't exist because it resides on widgets.NET. I hope that clarifies my question. Thanks.

Are the two domains matched to the same IP? Did you change the IP for a domain?

Yes, the IPs are different.

If you check the Google cache for widgets.net, do you get links to widgets.com?

Just an idea: If you had the widgets.net content on widgets.com temporarily, and if widgets.com has more PageRank then Google might decide to spider only the .com domain.

My idea is, that Google has a wrong IP for .net domain in his cache. This is possible, when you changed the IP of the .net domain.

Well, during the middle of last month, googlebot was working great for both sites. Now, all of a sudden, googlebot doesn't index our .net anymore and tries to call .net pages off of .com site. Our IP haven't changed in atleast 5 years for each domain.
