A new site of mine briefly appeared in the Google database for the first time just before and during the recent update and featured reasonably well for related searches. However now the new index has settled the site is no longer appearing.

It has a PR0, not a grey bar. Is this some sort of penalty or just because the site is new and only has about 1 incoming link?

I do not engage in spamming, doorway pages or any other dubious SEO techniques and instead concentrate on creating content rich sites as this has worked well with all my other sites.

The site has now been accepted for dmoz, and is listed on Yahoo, so should I expect it to return to the google index with the next update?

dawlish,

This is very common. Take a look at this post [webmasterworld.com], and use WebmasterWorld site search to find many others.

Your site is likely to pop in and out over the next few weeks, but you'll very likely have good luck next month!
