Google Image Search full of broken images...

Has Google changed its policy on caching images?

I don't ever remember seeing broken images on Google's Image Search, but recently they've been popping up all over the place-- has Google stopped caching the images for us or have webmasters gotten smarter about direct linking to images?

Anyone have any answers?

No answer, but it would be great to see more updates for the images search... :-( Every month or two months at least...
