Whoops! Somebody posted the same, but in a YAHOO thread.

Maybe yahoo! should just lease the news technology. I'm pretty sure it would be a good bottom line decision.

I can easily imagine Yahoo moving over to Inktomi. There seem to be signs already (that "Yahoo recently removed the Google logo from its pages that include Google's search results and replaced them with a box of tiny text reading "search technology provided by Google."), and Yahoo seems to the tail that the Google dog is wagging. I'd say based on this those worried about SEO should be also focusing on their Inktomi SERPs. For me, Yahoo hits are #2 behind Google.

Will Yahoo still use PR as a factor in their results if there is a break?

I hope so

PageRank is unique to Google, so if they break no. However, if Inktomi has its own version of PageRank, then this will effect the results.

You don't Google would sell Yahoo access to PageRank data? Maybe not raw PR data but perhaps something like the XML used by the Google toolbar

I dont think you will see the same results even if Inktomi has some kind of PR. I think it could be interesting with a change for Yahoo search results, if you want to see a different search result there is only alltheweb and Altavista that is interesting Google allmost rule all the other SE. This is nothing against Google I love Google.

I used to be convinced that GoogleGuy was Larry. But there wasn't even a single smilie in the NY Times article so that's proof positive they're not the same person. Right? ;)

From the article:
"industry executives say Google's relations with Yahoo are quite strained".

Just who are these industry executives? My guess is that these are Inktomi and/or Fast exec's (or Overture, Lycos, or AltaVista exec's). All of which would love to see Google take a body blow.

Because these "industry execs" are likely biased competitors, this comment probably doesn't mean much. This could just be propaganda comments meant to make the Yahoo and Google negotiations more tense and difficult.

On the other hand this could be a real indicator of the state of Yahoo and Google's negotiation. Noway to really know until the deal is done. So why am I writing this? I really don't know :)

I think this article is notable because it takes the rift into the open, and confirms talks with Inktomi. I always thought that FAST was in the running.

confirms talks with Inktomi.

It doesn't really "confirm" them. It says "said to be considering..." The only thing that statment confirms is the existence of a rumor.

A reference to Inktomi results at Yahoo can be found on Yahoo's web site here [docs.yahoo.com]

I think Yahoo unintentionally let it slip out.

Nice one, take a look at the copyright on that page:
Copyright © 1994-98 Yahoo! Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Looks like you just found 4 year old information :)

The INK rumor is just that, a rumor. With all the scandals coming out in the open about what really happened trading wise with the dot com stocks, I'm actually surprised something like this got published, given the current environment.

There is no evidence, at all, that Y! is considering the move to INK instead of Google.

Before, Google was paying Yahoo for branding, some millions / year, the absence of the Google logo on the Yahoo serps more than likely only means that Google is now saving serious $$$ by not having to pay for branding.

Didn't Yahoo's "overflow" results used to be powered by INK? I think that may just be an old page of their site that hasn't been updated.

jeremy goodrich I think you are right, but there is always a "maybe" in the internet game and Google is maybe saving some bucks, but Yahoo keeps falling 9.17 on the stock market, they could learn a little from Google.
