information in referal url

what does it mean?

In a referal url from google this is present: " hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1 "
does anyone know what it means?

Search language was English, and the IE browser used encoding ISO-8859-1?

en is english
isoblahblah is the encoding

but I am not sure that the ie means internet explorer - I think it just means the encoding - not internet explorer.
