Unless you have access to Google's secret sauce, I can't see how anybody can give a definitive answer to this question. It is a good question however.
I have a feeling that it probably doesn't make a difference. What logic, as far as RELEVANCE to a search query, would one apply to justifying a higher benefit to a link located higher up on a list? What's the rationale? I can't think of one, and am inclined to believe that there is no benefit.
Just my reasoned opinion. I could be wrong. Only the holder of the secret sauce can tell you for sure.
